Terms of service
These terms tell you who we are, how we sell to you, and what to do if something goes wrong. Please read them before placing an order. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Who we are
Sell Books Limited, a company registered in England and Wales.
Company number: 06853634
VAT number: GB 293133995
Registered office: Martin House, Unit 2, Downs Road, London E5 8QJ, United Kingdom

The books we sell
Most of our books are secondhand. Every listing shows a condition grade, and that grade forms part of the book's description:
- New — a new copy, bought from a wholesaler of new books.
- Almost New — secondhand, with no significant signs of use.
- Very Good — secondhand, light wear only.
- Standard Secondhand — secondhand, with normal wear from reading.
- Poor Condition — complete and readable, but heavily worn. Listings in this grade may note markings, inscriptions or damage.
Cover images are representative of the title, not photographs of the copy you will receive. Publishers reissue books with different jackets, and a secondhand copy may be an earlier or later printing with different cover artwork, a different publication date or a different page count.
How a contract is formed
Placing an order is an offer to buy. We accept that offer, and a contract comes into existence, only when we email you to confirm the book has been dispatched.
We stock single copies, and the same copy is offered for sale in more than one place. Occasionally a copy sells elsewhere between your order being placed and our picking it from the shelf. Where that happens we will tell you and refund you in full. No contract will have been formed, and we will have no further liability to you beyond that refund.
We may also decline an order where the book is not in the condition described, where there has been an obvious pricing error, or where we are unable to deliver to your address.
Price and payment
Prices are shown in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies. Printed books are zero-rated for VAT in the United Kingdom, so no VAT is charged on them; other items, such as audio recordings, are charged at the prevailing rate.
Delivery is charged once per order, not per book: £1.99, and free on orders of £10 or more before delivery. Any duties or import taxes on orders outside the United Kingdom are your responsibility unless the checkout states otherwise.
If we discover an error in the price of a book you have ordered, we will contact you to ask whether you wish to continue at the correct price or cancel. If we cannot reach you, we will treat the order as cancelled and refund you in full.
Delivery
We aim to dispatch promptly and will give you an estimated delivery date at checkout or in your confirmation email. Delivery times are estimates and are not guaranteed.
The books become your responsibility when they are delivered to the address you gave us. You own them once we have received payment in full.
Cancellation, returns and faulty books
You have a legal right to cancel within 14 days, and separate rights if a book is faulty or not as described. Both are set out in full in our Returns Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Our responsibility to you
If we fail to comply with these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking them or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for breach of your legal rights in relation to the goods.
We supply books for domestic and private use. We have no liability to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption, or loss of business opportunity.
Events outside our control
We are not liable for delay or failure to perform caused by an event outside our reasonable control. If such an event occurs we will contact you as soon as possible, and you may cancel and receive a refund for anything paid for but not received.
Your information
We use your personal data only as set out in our Privacy Policy.
Complaints
If something has gone wrong, email london@sellbooks.co.uk and we will try to resolve it. If we cannot resolve it between us, you may be able to refer the dispute to an alternative dispute resolution provider.
Other important terms
We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation. We will tell you in writing if this happens and will ensure it does not affect your rights.
We may revise these terms. The version published on this page when you place an order is the version that applies to that order.
If any provision of these terms is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in force.
If we do not insist that you perform any of your obligations, or delay in enforcing our rights against you, that does not mean we have waived those rights.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you may bring legal proceedings in the English courts. If you live in Scotland you may bring proceedings in either the Scottish or the English courts; if you live in Northern Ireland, in either the Northern Irish or the English courts.
