What do the conditions mean?
Our conditions mean the following:
- New - a brand new book
- Almost New - appears new but is actually secondhand.
- Very Good - only minor imperfections such as minor scuffs to edge or cover or a price written in pencil or shop sticker.
- Standard Secondhand - Clearly been read before, but not too bad. We do not recommend these for gifting. Spines usually creased. Could also include creases or folds to cover, some writing such as in the cover or elsewhere, underlining or highlighting, but might not do. Possibly some stains or marks. Similar in general to books in any secondhand shop or charity shop.
- Poor Condition - Usually this will have a specific problem such as writing inside, water damage, missing dust jacket, heavy staining, large creases or cuts. These are readable copies but not nice ones. On other websites this condition is called 'Acceptable' or 'Fair' , but we want to be more honest.

'Diese Geschichte fing lange vor mir, vor mehr als hundert Jahren an, und zwar in der mecklenburgischen Residenzstadt Schwerin'. Hier wird 1895 jener Mann geboren, der später als 'Blutzeuge' gefeiert und einem Schiff den Namen geben wird, dessen Untergang am 30. Januar 1945 die größte Katastrophe in der Geschichte der Seefahrt darstellt. Das ehemalige Kraft-durch-Freude-Kreuzschiff 'Wilhelm Gustloff' mit Tausenden von Flüchtlingen und Soldaten an Bord wird von den Torpedos eines sowjetischen U-Boots versenkt, schätzungsweise fünf- bis neuntausend Menschen finden in der eisigen Ostsee den Tod. Eine der Überlebenden des Grauens ist die hochschwangere Tulla Pokriefke aus Danzig, die schon in 'Katz und Maus', in 'Hundejahre' und in 'Die Rättin' eine Rolle spielt. Ihr in jener Nacht geborener Sohn Paul, Journalist und Chronist der Geschichte, stößt eines Tages zufällig auf die brisante Internet-Seite einer 'Kameradschaft Schwerin', die ihn fortan umtreibt. Dabei fördert er ein menschliches Drama zutage, das bis in unsere Gegenwart hineingreift und nicht zuletzt seine eigene Familie tangiert.
