Scritto nel 1935 questo racconto del maggior teorico e poeta surrealista praghese è una deliziosa parodia del romanzo nero, genere classico che l'autore si diverte a dissacrare inserendovi un elemento centrale della poetica surrealista: la sessualità. Racconta infatti le avventure fantastiche di una vergine diciassettenne figlia presunta di una monaca e di un vescovo, la quale, alle prese con le sue prime mestruazioni, vive una settimana di meravigliosi eventi, di incontri con figure mostruose come gli uomini-puzzola che bevono sangue, una settimana nella quale non mancano roghi per eretici, monaci sporcaccioni, nonne snaturate dalla libidine.
