Hebe Sayer, a writer of children's books, novels and poetry, believes she has always been blessed, or cursed, with a surfeit of imagination. In the past, her writing kept her troubled world together and helped her to cope with a disastrous marriage and the turbulent teenage years of her twin daughters, Cassandra and Pandora.
But she hasn't written a word in nearly a year, not since the sudden tragic death of Pandora. After a severe breakdown, Hebe slowly re-emerges into the world and attempts to become a whole, functioning person again. This is not made easy by her ex-husband and his critical mother or by the fact that Cassandra seems to blame Hebe for her sister's death and is openly hostile to both her parents, especially her father.
When the successful writer, Sam Ellis, appears on the scene, things seem to be changing for the better and the chance of a caring and supportive relationship suddenly seems a possibility.

From the Author

This is my fifth novel and the first that I chose to make like an intimate diary. I was interested in the idea of looking at an unhappy but not disfunctional family situation, where something really dreadful happens, causing the breakdown of the mother, who has been keeping the show on the road and managing quite well up until the traumatic death of her much loved twin daughter.
I also wanted to explore the not so often written about scenario of a passionate and loving, caring relationship between a man and a woman not in the first flush or youth.
Hebe is not only trying to get back to normal, she is having to deal with several difficult and challenging relationships with other family members as well as having to watch the mother she has never been close to, dying.
Hebe is never a victim. She is a capable, although somewhat dreamy, funny and sensitive and, above all, totally honest character. I found I liked her the more I wrote and her character developed. I just hope the reader will also find her appealing.

About the Author

Nicola Lindsay was born in wartime London in 1944. The first year of her life was largly spent in a carry-cot, inside an old oak sideboard to avoid shrapnel from falling bombs and shattered windows. 
She went to school in Cambridge before embarking on a nursing career in Guy's Hospital in London.
She has lived in Africa, Italy and France as well as in England and Ireland and has travelled widely. She started writing seriously in her early fifties and had a book of poetry published, followed by a children's book. Writing scripts for radio stage and film, as well as book reviews, eight novels and a further children's book took up most of her time over the next few years.
Nicola Lindsay believes that, from time to time, it is good to be challenged and tested - and that, feeling slightly alarmed by what you've taken on, is good for one's health!

with her husband
