Format: Spiral-bound

Condition: Standard Secondhand — £41.20
What do the conditions mean?

Our conditions mean the following:

  • New - a brand new book
  • Almost New - appears new but is actually secondhand.
  • Very Good - only minor imperfections such as minor scuffs to edge or cover or a price written in pencil or shop sticker.
  • Standard Secondhand - Clearly been read before, but not too bad. We do not recommend these for gifting. Spines usually creased. Could also include creases or folds to cover, some writing such as in the cover or elsewhere, underlining or highlighting, but might not do. Possibly some stains or marks. Similar in general to books in any secondhand shop or charity shop.
  • Poor Condition - Usually this will have a specific problem such as writing inside, water damage, missing dust jacket, heavy staining, large creases or cuts. These are readable copies but not nice ones. On other websites this condition is called 'Acceptable' or 'Fair' , but we want to be more honest.

A Recipe for Peace (ARFP) is a non-profit organization established inMarch 2004 by Mary Gwynn and Sonia Lo. Mary and Sonia, the daughtersof diplomats, have conducted business across several continents and theirculinary travels have taken them to over 43 countries. During their extensivetravels they have seen how sharing a meal brings people together in a uniqueand powerful way.The aim of A Recipe for Peace is to use food and cooking as a way of buildingworking relationships that bridge differences of culture, ethnicity and ideology.ARFP’s commercial activities, such as this cookbook, are intended to fundcookery scholarships to pairs of teenagers from opposing groups in conflictareas such as the Palestine, the Koreas, Chechnya, etc. Once qualified, ARFPwill help place the young chefs in practical professional internships, with theultimate hope that they will return to their home communities and createfurther opportunities for teenagers like themselves. ARFP hopes to help ourgraduates by funding Peace Cafés and Cookery Schools in each of these conflictareas to extend the Foundation’s initial scope. We hope that these schools andworking partnerships will grow into a powerful grass-roots peace effort. The initial funds for the Foundation will be raised from a series of cookbooks, the first of which is Dining with Dictators. Many of the dictatorships mentionedin this book have been responsible for the starvation of their own peoplethrough corruption and mismanagement of their economies. We are thereforealso committed to sponsoring food and agricultural projects that will helpthose who have directly suffered (or are still suffering) as a result. By buyingthis book you will be supporting A Recipe for Peace and helping turn ourprojects into reality. We therefore thank you and hope you enjoy the recipes!
