Eddy Kamuanga Ilunga; Fragile Responsibility

Format: Paperback

Condition: Standard Secondhand — £75.94
What do the conditions mean?

Our conditions mean the following:

  • New - a brand new book
  • Almost New - appears new but is actually secondhand.
  • Very Good - only minor imperfections such as minor scuffs to edge or cover or a price written in pencil or shop sticker.
  • Standard Secondhand - Clearly been read before, but not too bad. We do not recommend these for gifting. Spines usually creased. Could also include creases or folds to cover, some writing such as in the cover or elsewhere, underlining or highlighting, but might not do. Possibly some stains or marks. Similar in general to books in any secondhand shop or charity shop.
  • Poor Condition - Usually this will have a specific problem such as writing inside, water damage, missing dust jacket, heavy staining, large creases or cuts. These are readable copies but not nice ones. On other websites this condition is called 'Acceptable' or 'Fair' , but we want to be more honest.

"I've delved into the history of the Kingdom of Kongo to investigate the heritage passed down from leader to leader (both former and current) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and to examine its impact on Congolese society. I'm interested in the porcelain objects and Toby Jugs used by Portuguese merchants in the 17th and 18th centuries in the Kingdom of Kongo. These objects were essentially used to enlist the willing cooperation of Kings and other notables, by persuading them that they were imbued with spiritual powers from the West, and that their possession would give them power over neighbouring Black Kingdoms and other sub-Saharan empires ... I've been creating a series of paintings depicting Black people in vulnerable poses, porcelain objects, Toby Jugs and ideograms. The figures appear with integrated circuits that are drawn in by hand. They refer to the violent exploitation of minerals such as cobalt, tantalum (coltan) and others in the Democratic Republic of the Congo"--Page 3.
