What do the conditions mean?
Our conditions mean the following:
- New - a brand new book
- Almost New - appears new but is actually secondhand.
- Very Good - only minor imperfections such as minor scuffs to edge or cover or a price written in pencil or shop sticker.
- Standard Secondhand - Clearly been read before, but not too bad. We do not recommend these for gifting. Spines usually creased. Could also include creases or folds to cover, some writing such as in the cover or elsewhere, underlining or highlighting, but might not do. Possibly some stains or marks. Similar in general to books in any secondhand shop or charity shop.
- Poor Condition - Usually this will have a specific problem such as writing inside, water damage, missing dust jacket, heavy staining, large creases or cuts. These are readable copies but not nice ones. On other websites this condition is called 'Acceptable' or 'Fair' , but we want to be more honest.

How to work with this book?
On each page, there are 9 picture prompts. At first sight, they look like puzzles without any connections. The clue is to use ALL 9 pictures as the elements to build kids' own story. The possibilities are endless. Each story can be unique and different. The young writer can return to the same page with prompts and create a completely new story, as there are additional sections 'my story 2' and 'my story 3'. Additionally, there are blank lined pages at the end of a book for more creative storytelling!
Prompts only give a general idea, but it is up to a writer how to combine them, in what meanings and order, etc.
Each picture prompt can be used widely in many meanings, eg.
Eye – can be used in a story as: I saw, I see, an eye, a sight, visible
Envelope – can be used in a story as: a letter, a message, an email, a post office, a secret
Bulb – can be used in a story as: light, bright, sudden idea, day, glass
Arrow – can be used in a story as: straight, go straight, directly, straight ahead, direction
There is a precise example of a story built based on the prompts at the beginning of this workbook.
We encourage you to think outside the box, make mistakes, create, and have fun. Picture hints help start writing, inspire kids to get more creative, and help build funny plots and surprising settings for stories.
