Condition: Standard Secondhand — £10.42
What do the conditions mean?

Our conditions mean the following:

  • New - a brand new book
  • Almost New - appears new but is actually secondhand.
  • Very Good - only minor imperfections such as minor scuffs to edge or cover or a price written in pencil or shop sticker.
  • Standard Secondhand - Clearly been read before, but not too bad. We do not recommend these for gifting. Spines usually creased. Could also include creases or folds to cover, some writing such as in the cover or elsewhere, underlining or highlighting, but might not do. Possibly some stains or marks. Similar in general to books in any secondhand shop or charity shop.
  • Poor Condition - Usually this will have a specific problem such as writing inside, water damage, missing dust jacket, heavy staining, large creases or cuts. These are readable copies but not nice ones. On other websites this condition is called 'Acceptable' or 'Fair' , but we want to be more honest.

Here is a lavish and inspiring look at the romantic movement in design. More an attitude than a single visual approach, the romantic style is suffused with abundance and edged with fantasy, appealing to our desire to create a place where we, and those we love, will find pleasure. The interiors revealed in 150 evocative colour tableaux range from elaborate domestic theatre to voluptuously casual disorder, from elegance to enchanting whimsy. Warmly lit, cluttered with keepsakes and dressed in alluring fabrics, they beckon with the promise of comfort, intimacy and indulgence. 'In the Romantic style' explores the history of romantic design and describes in detail how curtains, drapery and coverings can soften an interior; how the arrangement of furniture and accessories can make a room infinitely seductive; and how surfaces and finishes can create a distinctive mood. For everyone who has ever yearned for a romantic oasis, this evocative book shows how the simplest touches can transform a room by imbuing it with romance.
