The Diary of Two NobodiesMary Killen & Giles Wood

Format: Hardback

Condition: Very Good — £1.00
What do the conditions mean?

Our conditions mean the following:

  • New - a brand new book
  • Almost New - appears new but is actually secondhand.
  • Very Good - only minor imperfections such as minor scuffs to edge or cover or a price written in pencil or shop sticker.
  • Standard Secondhand - Clearly been read before, but not too bad. We do not recommend these for gifting. Spines usually creased. Could also include creases or folds to cover, some writing such as in the cover or elsewhere, underlining or highlighting, but might not do. Possibly some stains or marks. Similar in general to books in any secondhand shop or charity shop.
  • Poor Condition - Usually this will have a specific problem such as writing inside, water damage, missing dust jacket, heavy staining, large creases or cuts. These are readable copies but not nice ones. On other websites this condition is called 'Acceptable' or 'Fair' , but we want to be more honest.

"Gogglebox's Wiltshire couple Giles and Mary are much enjoyed by viewers for their wry observations and their distinctive interior landscape of William Morris willow-pattern matching fabric and wallpaper. Both are writers, and in The Diary of Two Nobodies we get to live with them for a year. We soon learn that one of Giles' key skills is his highly developed ability to annoy. For instance, paying for services with pound coins, slowly dispensed one by one from a novelty coin dispenser, usually gets a rise from the payee, and discordant whistling around the house is a hit with Mary. Other areas of dissension during what Mary calls thirty years of provocation include class, Mary's drawn upwards, Giles down, and food - Giles favours scraps, whereas Mary has stated on national television that she would like her ashes to be scattered in Waitrose. Giles sees himself as a cross between Mr Bean and Basil Fawlty, while Mary identifies with the Queen. In The Diary of Two Nobodies they each chronicle their domestic highs and lows with wit and candour, and across the divide, which Giles says is sometimes reminiscent of Brexit and Remain, it seems that opposites do, indeed, attract."--Publisher.
