Condition: Standard Secondhand — £2.07
What do the conditions mean?

Our conditions mean the following:

  • New - a brand new book
  • Almost New - appears new but is actually secondhand.
  • Very Good - only minor imperfections such as minor scuffs to edge or cover or a price written in pencil or shop sticker.
  • Standard Secondhand - Clearly been read before, but not too bad. We do not recommend these for gifting. Spines usually creased. Could also include creases or folds to cover, some writing such as in the cover or elsewhere, underlining or highlighting, but might not do. Possibly some stains or marks. Similar in general to books in any secondhand shop or charity shop.
  • Poor Condition - Usually this will have a specific problem such as writing inside, water damage, missing dust jacket, heavy staining, large creases or cuts. These are readable copies but not nice ones. On other websites this condition is called 'Acceptable' or 'Fair' , but we want to be more honest.

"This collection of SELECTED WORKS offers a new approach to art. Twelve paintings are analyzed in such a way that the spectator can easily follow and comprehend the evolution of painting as it is represented in a single museum. It may seem unlikely that a mere twelve paintings can be made to represent the 15,000 or so works in the Louvre; but the result is impressive. The paintings from different centuries, genres and countries have been chosen for their subject, their style and the symbols they contain in order to give as complete a view as possible of the history of painting. The explanations are simple and can be applied to other works in The Louvre or elsewhere. There are numerous illustrations including sketches, photographs and details of the paintings, that will help the reader to grasp the overall essentials very quickly." -- Back cover.
